Has Snopes dot com proven diet pills to be fake?
November 3, 2008 - Many people say diet pills are a waste of money but there are many who have shown pictures of their weight loss and doctors saying the ingredients actually work and are proven to work. I want to buy either Thermadrol or NuPhedrine. Those two according to my research have the best ratings. My concern is that am I being tricked? I don't know what to think anymore. What does snopes have to say about these miracle pills, myth, a hoax?
Should I go ahead and buy them?
I know snopes.com has a fabulous reputation as a myth-buster, but it has its limitations. I wouldn't look to those people as the ultimate arbiters of whether something works medically. They have biases just like anybody else and I doubt they have medical or nutritional training. Do you have health coverage? If you do, before you do anything else, I would go get a medical exam to make sure you don't have anything wrong with you that might be contributing to overweight. For instance, if your thyroid is underactive or if you have developed insulin resistance, these can cause weight gain. If your doc doesn't find anything wrong with you then frankly, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are so big it is interfering with living a normal life. I know the media really hypes up how great it is to be thin and how unhealthy it is to be fat but they found in a study two years ago that if you are not diabetic and don't have metabolic syndrome (the precursor to type 2 diabetes), being fat is not unhealthy in and of itself and does not cause heart disease. If your reason for weight loss has more to do with appearance, especially if you're concerned about your dating life, try to remember that even if you were at your ideal weight, things happen to us throughout our lives that cause our weight to fluctuate and our appearance to change. I'm 34, and I came out of high school at 5'6" and about 130 pounds. I had been slender my entire life and it wasn't until I was 21 and went on the pill that anything changed. Looking back now I suspect that hormones played a large role because I had my major weight gains after the Pill and each of my pregnancies. If you're looking to get married eventually you need to find a partner who is mature and realistic about what looks really mean to them. If you lose weight to impress a prospective or actual partner then you risk being dumped if you ever deviate from that person's opinion of what an acceptable weight range is. That can be devastating and, in my view, is not really worth the risk.
- plz, if they work why are there so many of them and why would anyone still need them? everyone would be thin by now.
- Diet pills are fake and not healthy, enough said , If you want to lose weight , you have to do it in the old fashioned way ( diet and exercise )
