Not all vision deficits can effectively be corrected with Lasik surgery. Those that can have proven to be greatly helped by Lasik. The post-operative care of the eye is very important in the total outcome of the surgery. If one contracts an infection in the eye after surgery, the outcome can be seriously negative. One may even lose the sight in that eye. These complications are very few and far between when the normal post-operative care is given and adhered to. The only complaint that sems to have any repeated frequency is that after Lasik surgery one might have night vision problems in the form of lights seeming to have spokes that go out radially from the light source. This is because of the very tiny scar tissue left behind on the cornea of the eye. Most people do not suffer any great discomfort from this side effect but it is among the most reported. For instance, at night, if one sees the headlights of an oncoming car, the lights seem to have rays of light going out from the center of the light source in a spoke fashion. Other than that, the surgery has helped many many thousands of people to see well enough to not need glasses to correct their vision any more. The vast majority of patients that have been polled after the surgery say that they were very glad that they had had the surgery and that they would do it again. The risks are small and the benefits are great.
